Who Should Attend?
The KC Select Youth Development Academy is for any player male or female in the u4 –u11 age divisions that has an enthusiasm for soccer and a willingness to listen, learn and have fun with the game. The academy is for players of all skill levels and abilities. Players will be grouped appropriately to maximize their ability to learn the game at the level they are prepared for. Your participation in the academy does not commit you to a competitive team or to the KC Select Soccer Club, it is merely a great development soccer program that will allow your child to maximize their potential and enjoy the game of soccer to the greatest of their abilities.
Who will be directing and coaching the academy?
The KC Select Board is pleased to announce that we have hired Jeff Cole as the Academy Director. Jeff has relocated from Wichita to KC. Jeff's past coaching experience has been with River City SC, Hutchinson Community College, McPherson College and Kansas ODP. Jeff has a USSF "A" and USSF National Goalkeepers license in addition to multiple levels of NSCAA diplomas. Each age group will have specific nationally licensed coaches that will oversee age groups. We will also employ age group assistant coaches and volunteers to conduct sessions that have been created by our professional coaching staff. The entire curriculum has been preset and all practice sessions are designed prior to the start of the academy with overall goals and objectives being met each season.
When is the academy?
The academy will take place during the fall and spring seasons. The academy will be 8 weeks in length. The Fall Session typically begins the third week of August and ends in late October. The Spring Session typically begins in early March and ends in mid May. Remember, all sessions are indoors and we will have no canceled practices or games due to weather. Academy sessions will be on Monday evenings with training and games incorporated into one session. See details sheet for specific times for each age group.
Cost?
Our fees are comparable to basic recreational soccer programs, but your player is provided much more. We feel the value in what we bring to the table is professional coaching, curriculum and facilities that are second to none. In addition to the practice sessions and games, all players will receive an academy jersey that will be required to be worn at all sessions. Fees for Spring 2013 general Academy are $80. For an additional OPTIONAL fee, players can purchase Adidas Shorts ($15) and Adidas White Socks with Red Stripes ($11). The shorts and socks are part of the KC Select uniform kit and are required for all competitive team participants. The KC Select Soccer Club and the KC Sports Lodge will be sponsoring the league and subsidizing costs to create the greatest value to participants possible.
Location?
All sessions will take place at the KC Sports Lodge located at 19310 E. 50thTerrace, Independence, MO 64055. The KC Sports Lodge has tremendous facilities with two full sized indoor soccer fields with FieldTurfand No Walls. The facility is centrally located and ideal for residents living in Lee’s Summit, Blue Springs, Independence, Liberty, and surrounding communities. The KC Sports Lodge has great spectator viewing, a large concession area , restaurant, party room , locker rooms and tons of restrooms. There will not be a recreational program in the area that exceeds the facilities and programming offered.
Format?
All age group participants will have one practice session per week. These academy sessions are designed to concentrate on age specific goals and objectives through technical skill training and games in a fun, positive and creative playing environment. The academy focuses on individual player development and will not be consumed with tactical play and team development concepts. Children will take with them a plethora of skills, moves , individual dribbling tools and first touch control. We will lay the foundation for individual development so that team objectives and play can flourish at the appropriate age group and time. All players will have skills training for half of the session and a game to demonstrate those skills for the other half of training on Monday nights. Players will be matched by abilities to maximize individual development .
